Uttar Pradesh , 20 Jan : Residents of Sarsawa town in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, were left in shock on Tuesday after five bodies were discovered inside a locked house in Kaushik Vihar Colony.
The deceased included Ashok Rathi, a revenue officer, along with his mother, wife, and two sons.
Neighbours described the family as peaceful, well-integrated, and without known disputes. The family had newly constructed the house and planned to inaugurate it next month.
Senior Superintendent of Police Ashish Tiwari said police officers received the alert and immediately reached the scene to conduct a preliminary inspection.
Preliminary findings also show that gunshot wounds caused all five deaths. Police recovered three pistols from the residence.
A forensic team is collecting evidence, and authorities have sent the bodies for post-mortem examinations.
Investigators are probing the case from multiple angles, including the possibility of a murder-suicide, though they have not drawn any conclusions so far.
Investigators are also reviewing the revenue officer’s medical and psychological history to determine if any health-related or personal factors contributed to the incident.
Local residents expressed grief and shock at the tragic discovery. MP Imran Masood visited the site, describing the incident as ‘extremely tragic’ and emphasising that society must reflect on the underlying causes of such tragedies.
The police have cordoned off the area and continue to examine evidence meticulously.
With no immediate clues about the motive, officials further said they will draw conclusions only after completing the post-mortem reports and forensic analysis.
The incident has left a pall of fear and mourning over the locality.
