The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI) issued a passenger advisory early Thursday as dense fog severely reduced visibility in the national capital.
Officials activated Low Visibility Procedures (LVP) to ensure aircraft safety, and confirmed that flight operations continued without major disruption.
In an advisory released at 4:30 AM, airport authorities urged passengers to contact their respective airlines for the latest information on departures and arrivals, stressing that weather conditions could impact schedules.
“Low-visibility procedures are in progress at Delhi Airport. All flight operations are presently normal,” the advisory stated.
Several airlines, including SpiceJet, Air India, and IndiGo, issued travel advisories in response to the fog.
SpiceJet warned that dense fog could affect departures, arrivals, and connecting flights, and advised passengers to check flight status on its official website.
Air India warned of continued poor visibility over the next few days, potentially impacting operations at its primary hub in Delhi, as well as other northern and eastern Indian airports.
Under its ‘FogCare’ initiative, the airline provides round-the-clock assistance, advance alerts on delays, and flexible rebooking or full refunds for affected passengers.
IndiGo also announced precautionary flight cancellations in Chandigarh, prioritising safety and advising passengers to allow extra travel time.
Delhi Battles Severe Pollution Levels
Delhi continues to grapple with worsening pollution.
Early Thursday, authorities recorded the city’s Air Quality Index (AQI) at 356, with four of 39 monitoring stations categorising it as ‘severe’.
Visuals from across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) showed roads, residential areas, and public spaces shrouded in thick smog, affecting visibility and raising health concerns.
Data from the Commission for Air Quality Management’s SAMEER app indicated an AQI of 358 at 7 AM, highlighting the persistence of hazardous conditions. Authorities advise residents to take precautions while travelling outdoors.
The dense fog and smog continue to disrupt daily life, from road traffic to air travel.
