Pahalgam , 4 Aug : A major portion of the Langnai Bridge in Pahalgam was severely damaged on Monday evening after flash floods triggered by an intense cloudburst in the Batkoot area sent powerful torrents of water through the region.
The strong currents damaged the bridge structure, disrupting traffic on the Aishmuqam–Pahalgam road.
Authorities temporarily suspended vehicular movement while restoration and damage assessment teams were deployed to the affected site.
Both the Anantnag–Pahalgam road and the Duchnipora road leading towards Pahalgam were badly affected, with traffic remaining suspended since Monday evening.
The flash floods also caused a sharp rise in the water level of the Lidder River and nearby streams, resulting in flooding at several locations and creating panic among residents and tourists.
Authorities have advised commuters to avoid the affected routes until they are declared safe for travel. Restoration work and assessments are underway to evaluate the extent of the damage and restore connectivity in the affected areas.
