PM Modi Congratulates Indian Athletes After 39-Medal Finish At CWG 2026

New Delhi , 3  Aug : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday congratulated the Indian contingent for its impressive performance at the Commonwealth Games 2026 in Glasgow, praising the athletes for their exceptional skill, determination and dedication throughout the competition.

India concluded its Glasgow campaign with 39 medals — 13 gold, 17 silver and nine bronze — to finish fourth in the overall medal standings.

Congratulating the contingent, PM Modi said he was proud of the athletes’ achievements and applauded every medal winner for bringing glory to the nation.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister said the athletes had displayed remarkable talent, perseverance and commitment throughout the Games.

He also added that their achievements would inspire young Indians to pursue excellence in sport and wished the entire contingent success in future competitions.

The Commonwealth Games 2026 officially concluded in Glasgow after 11 days of sporting action, with the closing ceremony marking the beginning of India’s preparations to host the landmark centenary edition in Ahmedabad in 2030.

The Commonwealth Games flag was handed over to Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi, officially launching India’s journey to host the centenary Games in Ahmedabad in 2030.

India further marked the occasion with a cultural showcase led by Shankar Mahadevan and Manushi Chhillar, offering a glimpse of Ahmedabad’s vision for the historic Games.

The 2030 edition will make India only the second nation after Australia to host the Commonwealth Games twice.

The successful handover ceremony and India’s cultural showcase signalled the country’s readiness to welcome athletes from across the Commonwealth for the historic centenary edition.
