Kerala , 31 Mar : The Bharatiya Janata Party on Tuesday released its manifesto for the Kerala Assembly elections, presenting an expansive agenda of development projects and welfare initiatives. The party seeks to broaden its political base in the state. Kerala will vote on April 9 to elect 140 legislators.
The manifesto outlines key infrastructure proposals. These include establishing an AIIMS, launching metro rail networks in Thiruvananthapuram and Kozhikode, and constructing a high-speed corridor connecting Thiruvananthapuram to Kannur.
Welfare commitments remain central to the document.
The party promises two free LPG cylinders annually for economically weaker families, 20,000 litres of complimentary drinking water per household each month, and an increase in welfare pensions to ₹3,000.
The BJP has also pledged to restructure Devaswom Boards and initiate a CBI investigation into the Sabarimala gold smuggling case.
Party president Nitin Nabin unveiled the manifesto under the slogan ‘This is change, this is developed Kerala’, in the presence of state chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar and senior leaders.
Electorally, the party has experienced mixed outcomes. It secured its only Assembly seat in 2016 through O Rajagopal from Nemom.
V Sivankutty of CPI(M) reclaimed the seat in 2021. Sivankutty now seeks re-election, while Chandrasekhar has declared his candidature early, signalling renewed intent.
The BJP’s vote share rose from 12.41% in 2021 to 15.64% in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, aided by a win in Thrissur. It later dipped to 14.71% in the 2025 local polls, despite a key victory in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation.
Nemom remains a critical battleground as the party aims for a breakthrough.
