Gujarat , 24 Mar : The Government on Tuesday confirmed that two LPG carriers, Pine Gas and Jag Vasant, have successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz and are currently advancing towards India.
The update came during an inter-ministerial briefing led by Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Special Secretary at the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways.
Pine Gas will reach New Mangalore port on March 27 with about 45,000 metric tonnes of LPG. Jag Vasant is expected to dock at Kandla port on March 26 with a cargo of 47,600 metric tonnes.
Rajesh Kumar Sinha further noted that around 20 Indian-flagged vessels remain positioned west of the Strait.
According to shipping data, both vessels secured clearance for transit through the critical maritime corridor, with a standard crossing duration of nearly 14 hours.
The movement assumes significance as the Strait continues to witness disruptions following heightened geopolitical tensions triggered by military actions in West Asia.
Jag Vasant had loaded its cargo from Kuwait, while Pine Gas sourced LPG from Ruwais in the UAE.
Both ships had faced delays in the region before receiving authorisation to proceed.
Earlier this month, two additional Indian vessels completed similar voyages successfully.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi reiterated the government’s focus on shielding citizens from global fuel volatility.
Addressing the Rajya Sabha, PM Modi stressed self-reliance in maritime logistics, noting that nearly 90 per cent of India’s trade depends on foreign ships. He highlighted plans to invest Rs 70,000 crore in domestic shipbuilding to reduce external dependence.
