
Jammu and Kashmir , 7 Feb : Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a detailed review meeting in Jammu on Saturday to assess the progress of ongoing development projects across Jammu and Kashmir. The discussion focused on roads, power, industrial growth, tourism, 4G connectivity, and optical fibre expansion.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, the Union Home Secretary, and senior officials from both the Central government and the J&K administration attended the meeting.
HM Amit Shah reaffirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership drives the Indian government’s efforts to build a developed and prosperous Jammu & Kashmir. He stated that continuous efforts by the Modi-led government have accelerated development projects across the region.
HM Shah highlighted the importance of harnessing hydropower potential and ensuring that welfare schemes reach all intended beneficiaries, calling for full saturation of government programmes.
Tourism and Youth Initiatives
The Home Minister observed that tourist interest in Jammu and Kashmir remains robust despite past challenges. He called for active promotion of the region’s destinations in other states and pledged full Central support to develop new tourism hubs.
HM Shah also stressed the need to expand sports infrastructure and establish academies to engage youth, targeting around Rs 200 crore in investment through partnerships with national sports organisations.
The Minister noted that Jammu & Kashmir has been included under the SASCI scheme for FY 2025–26, allowing access to 50-year interest-free loans for capital projects.
He also encouraged promoting the dairy sector with support from the National Dairy Development Board and stressed the role of fiscal discipline in stabilising the UT’s finances.
HM Shah concluded by stating that India is progressing steadily towards Viksit Bharat 2047, marking 100 years of independence, and emphasised that the Centre remains committed to the region’s development, security, and long-term prosperity.
