22 Jan : Published in the Gujarati magazine Sadhana’s Akshar Upvan column on November 18, 1989, just days after the Ram Mandir foundation stone laying, PM Modi highlighted the pivotal role of the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) and local devotees in collecting sacred bricks and laying the foundation stone.
He noted that Hindus were expressing collective cultural consciousness rather than pursuing political objectives, marking a significant awakening in independent India.
PM Modi emphasised that successive Congress governments had attempted to obstruct the movement, deploying laws, police, and administrative machinery.
Despite these efforts, public resolve prevailed. Restrictions on chariot processions and the transport of sacred stones repeatedly collapsed under popular pressure.
PM Modi described the eventual opening of locks at the Ram Janmabhoomi structure as ‘the second victory for the Hindus’, illustrating the power of determined civic mobilisation over state-imposed barriers.
The Prime Minister framed the Ayodhya event as a victory of cultural forces over state power, serving as a lesson against partisan political manoeuvres and exposing the hollowness of Congress’s claims to secularism.
He noted that the Shilanyas symbolised decades of sustained mobilisation and collective awakening, revealing what he described as the ‘political conspiracies of 43 years of Congress culture’.
The article stressed that the Ram Mandir Shilanyas was not merely a political milestone but a triumph of cultural consciousness, reinforcing Hindu identity and shaping the trajectory of Hindu mobilisation in post-independence India.
PM Modi’s reflections presented the event as a historic assertion of cultural pride and a decisive moment in India’s journey towards reclaiming its civilisational heritage.
