New Delhi , 17 Jan : In preparation for the Republic Day Parade, the Delhi Traffic Police have issued a traffic advisory outlining temporary restrictions in key areas of central Delhi. These special arrangements are intended to support the orderly movement of parade contingents along Kartavyapath during rehearsal sessions.
Officials confirmed that the restrictions, which came into effect on Saturday, will also apply on January 19, 20 and 21. Similar traffic measures are introduced every year as part of the logistical planning for the national celebrations on January 26.
According to details shared by the Delhi Traffic Police on the social media platform, traffic regulations will be enforced daily from 10:15 AM to 12:30 PM on the designated rehearsal days. During these hours, vehicular movement will be either restricted or diverted on selected routes.
Members of the public have been advised to organise their travel schedules in advance and avoid passing through affected areas during the restriction window to minimise inconvenience.
Several busy intersections near Kartavyapath are expected to experience traffic disruptions. Commuters have been advised to avoid areas around Kartavyapath. This includes Rafi Marg Crossing, Janpath Crossing, Mansingh Road Crossing and the C-Hexagon zone.
These junctions are located in Lutyens’ Delhi. The area experiences heavy traffic during working hours, making strict traffic regulation essential during the rehearsal period.
Guidance Issued for Motorists
The traffic police have urged motorists to comply with road signage and follow instructions provided by traffic personnel stationed at affected points. Drivers are also encouraged to use alternate routes recommended by authorities to ensure smoother movement across the city.
Police officials noted that public cooperation will play a key role in allowing rehearsals to be conducted without delays or safety concerns.
Republic Day rehearsals involve large-scale movement of personnel from the armed forces, paramilitary units, police forces and cultural troupes. The process also includes the transportation of heavy vehicles, ceremonial equipment and technical infrastructure.
Given the high security requirements associated with Republic Day preparations, extensive arrangements are put in place ahead of the event. Due to the operational complexity of large-scale rehearsals, traffic restrictions are enforced annually in the days leading up to Republic Day.
Authorities reiterated that the restrictions are short-term and essential for the successful execution of parade rehearsals. The Delhi Traffic Police have appealed to residents and commuters to remain patient and extend cooperation during this period.
Citizens have been advised to follow official Delhi Traffic Police channels for real-time updates on diversions and schedule changes. Further advisories are likely as Republic Day draws closer and additional rehearsals and security protocols are implemented.
