Patna, Dec 31 (UNI) The Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) on Wednesday demanded from Bihar Governor Arif Mohammad Khan for a probe into the controversial appointment of state minister Ashok Choudhary as an assistant lecturer, and the subsequent removal of his name from the appointment list.
In a letter to the Governor, RJD national spokesperson Prof Naval Kishore Yadav cited a report published three days ago in an English daily, which stated that the name of Ashok Choudhary, who had earlier been appointed at the post of Assistant Lecturer, was dropped from the appointment list.
Yadav pointed out that Ashok Choudhary had taken oath as a minister only about a month ago in the presence of the Governor.
He alleged that Choudhary’s name had appeared in the selection list “by any means whatsoever,” leading to widespread discussions in corridors of power.
He said the issue was also highlighted by several national newspapers published from Delhi.
Raising serious questions over the process, the RJD leader said that if the selection result was incorrect or fabricated, it must be explained how and on what basis it was published.
He claimed that, according to information available, the Education Department has returned the entire appointment list to the concerned commission.
Calling the development alarming, Yadav said it was surprising that a person whose appointment is now under question took oath as a minister before the Governor.
He added that appointments through commissions are part of a constitutional process and involve the Governor’s oversight, and such issues should be treated with utmost seriousness.
In view of the facts cited, the RJD urged the Governor to conduct a thorough probe of the matter at his level and take an appropriate decision regarding the alleged appointment of Ashok Choudhary as an Assistant Lecturer and later removal of his name from the list.
