Belagavi, Dec 18 (UNI): Karnataka BJP President Vijayendra Yediyurappa on Thursday slammed the Congress party, saying the High Court has not cleared the Gandhi family on merits in the National Herald case, although some technical relief being granted.
Addressing the media, he said, “The court has given no clean chit on the merits, yet the Congress continues to attack central agencies and the Election Commission, attempting to divert attention from its failures.”
Vijayendra accused the Congress of using protests against central agencies as a political tool, calling it a fashion for the party during times of desperation. “Protesting without substantive grounds undermines governance and creates unnecessary instability,” he said, asserting that people have lost confidence in the Congress party.
He also targeted the state Revenue Minister Krishna Byre Gowda, raising concerns over alleged irregularities involving land belonging to lakes and other public resources.
According to Vijayendra, approximately 21 acres were reportedly taken over by the Gowda family. “Irrespective it is a father’s or grandfather’s property, a Revenue Minister cannot illegally appropriate land. This is a serious issue that will be raised in the state assembly,” he said.
The BJP leader further criticised the state government’s guarantee schemes, saying they have strained departmental resources and hindered developmental work. He noted that excise duty on liquor sales has increased by 35 per cent in the past year, placing further pressure on revenue generation.
Vijayendra said, “The Congress is repeatedly blaming central agencies to mask its failures. The National Herald case clearly shows that even the judiciary has not exonerated them on merit. It is time they focus on governance rather than political theatrics.”
