
New Delhi , 18 Dec : Prime Minister Narendra Modi will on Friday address the closing ceremony of the second WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine, the Prime Minister’s Office said on Thursday.
The three-day summit, being held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi from December 17 to 19, underscores India’s growing leadership in shaping a global, science-based, and people-centred traditional medicine agenda.
The Prime Minister has consistently emphasised the need to mainstream traditional medicine and the Indian Knowledge System through research, standardisation, and international cooperation.
The summit reflects India’s efforts to position traditional medicine as an integral part of modern, evidence-driven healthcare systems worldwide.
During the programme, PM Modi will launch several landmark initiatives in the Ayush sector. These include the My Ayush Integrated Services Portal (MAISP), envisioned as a master digital platform to integrate services across the Ayush ecosystem and enhance accessibility for citizens.
He will also unveil the Ayush Mark to establish it as a global benchmark for the quality, safety, and reliability of Ayush products and services, thereby strengthening international trust in India’s traditional healthcare systems.
Important Publications and Releases
The Prime Minister will also release the WHO technical report on training in Yoga, highlighting the growing global acceptance of Yoga as a structured and evidence-based practice for physical and mental well-being.
In addition, he will release the book ‘From Roots to Global Reach: 11 Years of Transformation in Ayush’, documenting India’s progress in promoting Ayush systems over the past decade.
Symbolising the global resonance of India’s traditional medicinal heritage, PM Modi will also release a commemorative postal stamp on Ashwagandha, a medicinal herb recognised worldwide for its therapeutic value.
PM Modi will felicitate the recipients of the Prime Minister’s Awards for Outstanding Contribution to the Promotion and Development of Yoga for the years 2021 to 2025.
The awards recognise individuals and organisations for their sustained efforts in promoting Yoga globally and reaffirm Yoga as a timeless practice for balance, harmony, and overall well-being.
Exhibition and Global Deliberations
The Prime Minister will also visit the Traditional Medicine Discovery Space, an exhibition showcasing the diversity, depth, and contemporary relevance of traditional medicine knowledge systems from India and across the world.
Jointly organised by the World Health Organisation and the Ministry of Ayush, the summit is themed ‘Restoring balance: The science and practice of health and well-being’.
It has witnessed intensive deliberations among global leaders, policymakers, scientists, practitioners, Indigenous knowledge holders, and civil society representatives on advancing equitable, sustainable, and evidence-based health systems.
The Prime Minister’s address will reinforce India’s commitment to integrating traditional medicine into global healthcare frameworks.
