New Delhi : Nine children tragically lost their lives while several people got injured in Sagar, Madhya Pradesh when a wall collapsed in the Shahpur area of the district on Sunday.
The incident took place between 8.30 am and 9 am near the campus of a temple during a religious programme in Shahpur village under Rehli assembly seat, officials said.
According to the information received so far, nine children, aged 10 to 15 years, have been killed and two injured in the wall collapse incident at the religious programme in Shahpur, Sagar Divisional Commissioner Virendra Singh Rawat told a news agency over phone.
Senior officials, including the district collector, had reached the spot.
CM Yadav Announces Financial Assistance For Kin Of Deceased
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav expressed his grief over the loss of lives of 9 children in the wall collapse incident and announced financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh for the families of the deceased.
“Today, I am saddened to hear the news of 9 innocent children dying due to the collapse of the wall of a dilapidated house due to heavy rains in Shahpur of Sagar district. I have directed the district administration to provide proper treatment to the injured children… The families of the deceased children will be given financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh each by the government,” stated Yadav.
A programme of “Parthiv Shivling Nirman” (making Shivling out of clay) was going on under a tent near the dilapidated house and a wall collapsed and fell on the tent, local BJP MLA and former minister Gopal Bhargava told reporters.
The children got crushed under the tent and debris, the BJP MlA added.
4 Children Die After Wall Collapses In Rewa
On Saturday, Four children were killed and a woman and a child sustained injuries after a wall of an abandoned building collapsed on them while they were returning home from school in Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district.
The incident occurred near a private school under Garh police station limits, an official said.
The children from Sunrise Public School were on their way home when the wall of an abandoned building nearby collapsed on them, Mahendra Singh Sikarwar, Inspector-General of Police, Rewa zone, told reporters.
