
Srinagar , 3 April : A series of road accidents across Jammu and Kashmir on Friday left one person dead and several others injured, with some in critical condition, officials said.
In Srinagar, a 45-year-old man, Farooq Ahmed Sofi of Parimpora, sustained critical injuries after falling from a Tata Mobile at Parimpora Main Chowk. He suffered severe head injuries and was rushed to JVC Hospital Bemina, where his condition remains critical. Police have taken cognisance of the incident.
In north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, five schoolchildren were injured after their bus met with an accident near Shutloo. The students were shifted to Sub-District Hospital Rohama, where they received first aid and stitches. Three of them were later referred to Government Medical College Baramulla for further evaluation. All are reported to be stable. The bus belongs to New Era Chijhama. Police have taken cognisance of the incident.
In central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district, three persons were injured after a small goods vehicle overturned in the Gund Kangan area. The injured — identified as Shafayat Ahmad Sofi and Mohammad Nawaz Khan, both residents of Wasan Kangan, and Mohammad Yousuf Chichi of Akhal Kangan — were shifted to Primary Health Centre Gund for treatment. Their condition was not immediately known. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Meanwhile, in the Jammu region, a 35-year-old man was killed after a dumper plunged into a roadside drain near Jamoda on the Samba–Mansar road. The deceased, Surinder Singh of Paltha in Samba district, died on the spot. The vehicle was reportedly coming from Udhampur when the accident occurred. Police shifted the body to District Hospital Samba for post-mortem and have launched a probe. Authorities are investigating all incidents to ascertain the causes.
