Bihar , 25 Aug : Student protests intensified in Patna on Tuesday as thousands of candidates assembled in Gardanibagh and marched towards the Chief Minister’s residence.
They demanded changes to the BPSC TRE-4 recruitment process and greater transparency in government examinations.
The protesters sought removal of the Preliminary-cum-Mains format, an end to negative marking and a 100 per cent domicile policy for TRE-4.
As the march advanced, authorities strengthened security. Police installed barricades near JP Golambar to halt the procession.
Protesters reportedly breached them and moved towards Dak Bungalow. Police and CRPF personnel guarded the route.
Security personnel detained several protesters, leading to scuffles between candidates and police.
A large gathering later formed at Dakbungalow, where authorities placed heavy iron barricades to block further movement towards the Chief Minister’s residence. Students continued pressing forward despite the restrictions.
Student leader Aman Kumar leads the movement, which has gained backing from more than 15 student organisations.
Teachers and Bihar Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav have also supported the protesters.
The groups submitted 13 demands covering recruitment examinations and appointments. These include re-conducting the BPSC 70th Combined Competitive Examination, cancelling the 1,799-post Sub-Inspector examination and holding TRE-4 as a single-stage test.
They also want faster BSSC and BET examinations, quicker librarian and other pending recruitments, and post-exam access to question papers, answer keys and OMR sheets.
The organisations seek an annual recruitment examination calendar, strict action against paper leaks, a clear age-limit policy, an effective domicile framework and faster completion of pending appointments.
They also demand a time-bound system to resolve outstanding recruitment issues.
