24 , Aug : More than a dozen flights from Delhi Airport were diverted as heavy rain and thunderstorms disrupted operations across the Delhi-NCR region on Monday. Several airlines issued advisories and asked passengers to verify their flight status before travelling to the airport.
Airlines also used X to inform passengers about weather-related disruptions. IndiGo said it was closely monitoring conditions and urged travellers to check real-time updates. It also advised passengers to allow additional travel time because rain could cause traffic delays.
“Bad weather over #Delhi has impacted flight schedules. We are closely monitoring the weather and doing our best to get you where you need to be, safely and smoothly,” IndiGo wrote on X.
Air India also warned that adverse weather could affect flights operating to and from Delhi. The airline asked passengers to confirm their flight status before leaving for the airport.
Akasa Air reported that severe weather had affected certain flights across its network. “Due to severe weather conditions in Delhi, certain flights across our network have been impacted. We realize that this may inconvenience your travel plans and seek your patience and understanding. While this situation is completely beyond our control, please rest assured that our teams are always ready to assist you,” it posted on X.
SpiceJet also cautioned that arrivals, departures and connecting flights could face delays.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department issued alerts for Delhi. It forecast heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning and strong gusty winds in parts of the capital.
The Airports Authority of India earlier advised flyers to monitor weather conditions at both departure and arrival cities.
“Before you travel, stay informed about local weather conditions at your departure and arrival cities,” AAI said on X.
The authority also asked passengers to reach the airport well in advance, as rainfall could slow road traffic.
