New Delhi , 15 Aug : Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a broad package of initiatives on Saturday while delivering his Independence Day address from the Red Fort, with a strong focus on young people and emerging technologies.
His announcements covered affordable access to competitive exam preparation, identification of sporting talent, artificial intelligence education, modern civil defence, semiconductor production and nuclear energy expansion.
The Prime Minister announced plans to offer free digital coaching to youngsters preparing for competitive examinations across the country.
PM Modi announced a countrywide programme to discover sporting talent among children aged five to 15.
The Prime Minister said India should aim to participate in at least three-fourths of Olympic events by 2036 as the country expands its sporting capabilities.
He also highlighted India’s ambition to host the 2036 Olympic Games and pointed to progress made through initiatives such as Khelo India and the Target Olympic Podium Scheme.
One Crore Youth to Receive AI Training
The government plans to provide artificial intelligence skills training to one crore young people within the next year.
PM Modi said the programme would prepare India’s youth to take advantage of opportunities in the rapidly expanding AI sector and help the country emerge as a global leader in the field.
The Prime Minister highlighted the progress India has made towards building domestic semiconductor manufacturing capacity.
He said three major semiconductor facilities have already been established and that production has started with some output intended for overseas markets.
According to PM Modi, another five to eight semiconductor plants could become operational over the next seven to eight years.
PM Modi announced plans to bring five new nuclear reactors into operation within the next six to seven years.
He also set an ambitious target of increasing India’s nuclear power capacity to 100 GW by 2047.
The Prime Minister said advances in fast breeder reactor technology would strengthen India’s efforts towards greater self-reliance in nuclear fuel.
He also outlined wider economic goals, including placing 50 Indian companies on the Fortune 500 list and getting an Indian bank into the world’s top five.
