Meta Says PM Modi’s Facebook Video Was Removed By Error

28 July : Meta restored Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Facebook video after acknowledging that it had removed the content by mistake.

The company confirmed that it had taken down the video in error and reinstated it after the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) examined the matter.

A Meta spokesperson said the company identified the mistake and promptly restored the video.

The clarification came after MeitY summoned the global heads of Meta and Instagram over the temporary blocking of the Prime Minister’s video on Facebook.

PM Modi released the video on July 23, marking his first address to Generation Z during the 36-day student protest led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).

In the address, the Prime Minister announced that the Cabinet would unveil stricter measures against examination paper leaks the following day.

The video attracted millions of views before Facebook briefly restricted access in the early hours of July 28.

Initial reports suggested Facebook had limited access following what appeared to be a legal request. However, Meta later clarified that an operational error—not a content moderation decision—caused the restriction.

Earlier this month, another video by PM Modi gained nearly one million Instagram followers overnight, taking his total to around 101 million. The restored video further highlighted his strong digital reach and direct engagement with citizens, particularly young people.
