Jammu , 8 June : Lt. Governor Manoj Sinha said that law enforcement agencies have been given full freedom to root out narco-terror networks. Under the new SOP, strict action will be taken against the persons involved in drug trafficking. Their passports, driving licences, arms licenses and Aadhaar cards will be canceled and their movable and immovable properties will be confiscated under the NDPS Act.
He said this while participating in the Drug Free Jammu and Kashmir Campaign and Walk held in Poonch on Sunday. On this occasion, he said that this walk has reached all the 20 districts of the Union Territory and its aim is to free the land of Jammu and Kashmir from the curse of drugs and completely eradicate narco-terrorism.
The Lt. Governor said that the fight for a poonch-free Jammu and Kashmir is being intensified. He called upon every citizen, panchayat and ward to spread awareness against drug traffickers and accelerate rehabilitation efforts for the next 43 days. Collective responsibility will create a healthy and safe future.
He said that during the last 57 days he visited every district of Jammu and Kashmir and promised the people that criminals who harm the society will not be spared. He assured that the government is committed to ensure a bright future for the youth of the state.
A massive mass movement will be launched
The Lieutenant Governor said that in the next 43 days, a massive mass movement will be launched in the entire Jammu and Kashmir, including Poonch, with the aim of making every panchayat, street and house drug free. He said that being a border district, narco-terrorist elements in Poonch try to take advantage of the geographical conditions. While cross-border drug trafficking is ruining the future of the youth, it is also providing financial support to terrorism. The whole society has to work together to deal with this.
Manoj Sinha said that instead of indifference in the fight against drug addiction, active participation is necessary. It’s not my problem is the kind of thinking that fuels drug traffickers and drug peddlers as they take advantage of people’s silence to expand their networks. He said that real change in society comes when the community unites to face this challenge. Along with economic progress, vigilant citizens are also the cornerstone of a prosperous society. During the last 57 days of operations, extensive action has been taken against drug trafficking networks in Jammu and Kashmir.
1,038 FIRs registered so far
The Lt. Governor said that so far 1,038 FIRs have been registered and more than 1,130 smugglers have been arrested, while 63 people have been detained under NDPS. More than 100 properties have been seized. Additionally, 700 driving licenses have been canceled and the process of canceling 130 passports has been initiated.
He said that the drug-free Jammu and Kashmir campaign has to be brought to every home and made a permanent part of public consciousness. By connecting the youth with education, skill development and sports activities, they can be made the strongest force against addiction. The Lieutenant Governor said that the strategy of the campaign is based on two major pillars. First, deploying youth clubs on the front lines against local drug networks and second, giving women leadership roles to connect mothers and sisters to the drive to make every village drug-free.
At the end of his address, the Lt. Governor said that drug-free Jammu and Kashmir will be created only through public participation. The police, law enforcement agencies and narcotics departments will ensure that no drug trafficker or drug peddler can operate within their jurisdiction. He said that this fight is long, but it will continue until the entire network of narco-terror is wiped out.
