Sagar Adani, Executive Director of Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), called for faster electrification to improve energy security, support economic growth, and reduce dependence on fossil fuels.
He was addressing the inaugural Adani Green Energy Dialogue, organised by AGEL in partnership with the Energy Transitions Commission (ETC) at the Science Museum in London during London Climate Action Week.
Speaking at the event, Sagar Adani said renewable energy can deliver reliable, affordable and round-the-clock electricity only when combined with large-scale energy storage solutions such as Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and Pumped Storage Projects (PSPs).
He said AGEL is progressing towards its target of achieving 50 GW of renewable energy capacity by 2030, led by the world’s largest renewable energy project at Khavda in Gujarat.
Global Leaders Discuss Energy Transition
The dialogue brought together policymakers, investors, business executives and climate experts to examine the policy reforms, investment strategies and infrastructure required to accelerate the global shift towards clean energy.
Discussions centred on expanding electrification, strengthening renewable energy deployment and modernising electricity grids.
Participants highlighted that increasing demand from artificial intelligence, advanced manufacturing, data centres and digital infrastructure would significantly raise global electricity consumption in the coming years.
They agreed that sustained investment, long-term policy certainty, and expanded transmission and storage infrastructure will be essential to meeting future demand sustainably.
The programme featured discussions chaired by Lord Adair Turner and Nigel Topping, with senior representatives from leading global organisations across the energy, finance and technology sectors.
The event concluded with a visit to ‘Energy Revolution: The Adani Green Energy Gallery’ at the Science Museum, which has welcomed more than one million visitors since opening in March 2024.
Earlier this week, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani reaffirmed the Group’s commitment to investing over US$100 billion in renewable energy, green hydrogen, storage, transmission and next-generation infrastructure to support India’s low-carbon future.
