President Murmu To Honour Distinguished Achievers At Padma Awards Ceremony 2026

New Delhi , 23 June : President Droupadi Murmu will lead the Second Civil Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on Tuesday, presenting Padma Awards to 65 recipients from diverse professional backgrounds.

Vice-President CP Radhakrishnan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, senior Cabinet members and other distinguished guests will attend the ceremony, which will begin at 5 PM.

This round of honours includes two Padma Vibhushan awards, seven Padma Bhushan awards, and 56 Padma Shri awards. Earlier this year, during the first investiture ceremony held on 25 May, another group of 65 awardees received national honours from the President.

Widely regarded as among India’s most prestigious civilian recognitions, the Padma Awards acknowledge exceptional accomplishments in sectors such as public affairs, social service, science, engineering, medicine, literature, education, sports, arts, industry, and government service.

Prominent Names Among Awardees

Late Jharkhand Mukti Morcha founder and former Union Minister Shibu Soren will receive the Padma Bhushan posthumously for his contribution to public life.

P Narayanan will receive the Padma Vibhushan for his contribution to Literature and Education, while former Supreme Court judge Justice KT Thomas will receive the award for his distinguished service in Public Affairs.

The government will also confer the Padma Bhushan on tennis icon Vijay Amritraj, acclaimed Malayalam actor Mammootty, playback singer Alka Yagnik, SKM Maeilanandhan, Vellappally Natesan, and cancer specialist Dr Dattatreyudu Nori.

Several international personalities have secured a place on this year’s honours list.

The government will award the Padma Bhushan to US-based physician Dr Dattatreyudu Nori, while Professor Prateek Sharma will receive the Padma Shri for his contribution to medicine.

Russian scholar Liudmila Khokhlova will receive the Padma Shri in Literature and Education, while the government will posthumously honour Georgia’s Vladimer Mestvirishvili with the Padma Shri for his contribution to sports.

Among the Indian awardees, Professor Mahendra Nath Roy from West Bengal will be recognised with the Padma Shri for his achievements in Science and Engineering.
