Srinagar, Apr 3: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) media in-charge for Kashmir, Advocate Sajid Yousuf Shah, on Friday welcomed the government’s decision to order a magisterial inquiry into the Arhama Ganderbal encounter, calling it a “constructive and necessary step.”
The development came after concerns were raised by the family of Raashid Ahmad Mughal, who was killed in the operation.
Speaking to news agency Kashmir News Service (KNS) Advocate Shah emphasised that the probe must be conducted in a “fair, transparent, and time-bound manner.” He added that ensuring accountability and upholding justice in the case would be crucial for strengthening public trust and reaffirming confidence in the due process of law.
Earlier in the day, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha directed a thorough and impartial magisterial inquiry into the encounter that led to Mughal’s death.
In a post on X, LG Sinha said the inquiry “will examine all aspects related to the incident and ensure that justice is served.”
According to an order issued by the Home Department, the District Magistrate of Ganderbal has been asked to conduct the inquiry and submit a detailed report within seven days.
