
Delhi , 20 Mar : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday congratulated Anutin Charnvirakul on his election as Thailand’s Prime Minister, expressing eagerness to work closely with him.
Sharing his message on the social media platform, PM Modi highlighted the longstanding civilisational and cultural ties between India and Thailand and the vibrant people-to-people connections that strengthen the bilateral relationship.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Heartiest congratulations to Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul on his election as Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand. I look forward to working closely with him. Together, we will further deepen the multifaceted India-Thailand Strategic Partnership. Our ties are rooted in shared civilisational heritage, close cultural connect and vibrant people-to-people ties. India and Thailand remain united in our shared aspirations for peace, progress and prosperity for our peoples.”
Charnvirakul, representing the Bhumjaithai Party, secured re-election after obtaining a simple majority in the House of Representatives vote on Thursday. He received 293 votes against 119 for Natthaphong Ruengpanyawut of the People’s Party, surpassing the 250 votes required for approval, as stated by House Speaker Sophon Zaram.
The newly elected Prime Minister pledged to collaborate with parliamentarians and senators to ensure Thailand’s prosperity and uphold public interests.
Pending formal approval from King Maha Vajiralongkorn, Charnvirakul will officially assume office as Thailand’s 32nd Prime Minister, continuing his term since September last year after the Constitutional Court removed former Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra.
Leaders and citizens across India and Thailand have welcomed the election outcome, viewing it as an opportunity to strengthen strategic, cultural, and economic cooperation while advancing shared regional and global goals.
