Jammu, 2 Feb : The Indian Army on Monday cordoned off a Military Engineering Service (MES) building in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district after reports of suspicious activity near the premises.
The alert followed information provided by local residents who noticed two unidentified individuals wearing army uniform-like attire in the Bari Brahmana area.
Acting promptly on the tip-off, Army personnel rushed to the site and sealed the MES building and its surrounding area as a precautionary measure.
Security forces launched a search operation to verify the credentials of the individuals and rule out any potential threat.
Authorities temporarily restricted movement in the area and put additional security arrangements in place.
An official said that the timely alert from locals enabled the security forces to respond swiftly and prevent any possible breach.
The official added that the authorities are conducting the operation and are awaiting further details.
The Border Security Force (BSF) guards the Samba district along the international border.
The region remains sensitive due to repeated attempts by terrorist outfits to sustain militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.
Security agencies have observed that smugglers frequently use drones, often with support from Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), to drop arms, ammunition, drugs, and cash across the border.
The BSF uses hi-tech anti-drone systems to counter these threats, forcing many drones to retreat after being fired upon.
Apart from drone activity, security forces have occasionally detected infiltration attempts under the cover of cross-border firing or through tunnels dug from across the border.
Similar threats persist along the Line of Control (LoC), guarded by the Army across districts in both the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu region.
Authorities remain on high alert as the search operation in Samba continues.
