Delhi , 21 Jan : Security agencies across Delhi and several other states have been placed on very high alert after the Intelligence Bureau warned of a co-ordinated terrorist attack planned on or before Republic Day on January 26.
According to intelligence inputs, the Jaish-e-Mohammad and Al Qaeda are plotting strikes at multiple locations, including Delhi and the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
Officials said operatives planned the plot locally and aimed to strike several high-profile sites simultaneously.
Security forces have tightened security at sensitive locations and launched operations to neutralise those linked to terror outfits. The alert follows a recent Red Fort blast carried out by a Jaish-inspired module.
Officials said the attackers planned the strike for Republic Day but triggered it prematurely after police busted a Jaish-linked module in Faridabad and seized over 2,000 kg of ammonium nitrate.
Agencies believe the group is trying to revive the plot and are pursuing fresh leads linked to a Jammu and Kashmir–based module.
Security agencies have released the names of suspects, including Mohd Rehan, who went underground in 2016 after authorities busted an Al Qaeda module in Sambhal.
The other suspects identified are Mohd Umar, Abu Sufiyan, Mohd Shahid Faisal, Syed Arshiya and Sharjeel Akhtar. Officials said agencies are tracking their movements as part of intensified security measures ahead of Republic Day.
ISI Role and Wider Threats
Intelligence inputs indicate direct involvement of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), with support from Khalistani terror networks in Punjab providing logistical assistance.
Officials said Jaish-e-Mohammad and Khalistani groups have collaborated in the past and continue to maintain strong operational links.
Security agencies are also closely monitoring increased online propaganda by terror-linked groups such as the Falcon Squad, associated with The Resistance Front, an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Authorities have further stepped up surveillance in West Bengal and northeastern states following intelligence about possible infiltration attempts from Bangladesh, warning that the threat level remains high in the lead-up to Republic Day.
