
21 Jan : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that since 2014, his government has worked with the resolve of ‘Act East, Act Fast’ to empower the Northeastern region, unlock development opportunities and fulfil the aspirations of the people.
In a letter to Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla on the occasion of the state’s Statehood Day, the Prime Minister reaffirmed the Centre’s unwavering commitment to Manipur’s inclusive growth and prosperity.
He saluted the people of Manipur for their courage and steadfast faith in peace and progress, assuring full Central support to strengthen the state’s development trajectory.
PM Modi highlighted Manipur’s vibrant artistic traditions and outstanding sporting culture, noting that the state’s youth have showcased discipline and determination on the global stage.
He also praised the people’s reverence for nature, focus on women’s empowerment and commitment to sustainable living.
Recalling Manipur’s contribution to India’s freedom struggle, the Prime Minister said Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s Azad Hind Fauj first unfurled the Tricolour in the state.
To honour these sacrifices, the government renamed Mount Harriet in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as Mount Manipur.
Recalling his visit to Manipur in September last year, PM Modi said he inaugurated key projects worth thousands of crores and laid foundation stones for several development works.
He noted that Central assistance to the state has increased significantly since 2014, with flagship schemes such as PM-KISAN, Jan Dhan Yojana and Ayushman Bharat improving livelihoods.
Connectivity, he said, remains central to development, with efforts to link Imphal to the national rail network, expand the airport and build highways and rural roads.
Highlighting Manipur’s sporting excellence, the Prime Minister said the establishment of the country’s first National Sports University in the state reflects confidence in its youth and future potential.
