New Delhi, Dec 26 (UNI) Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee President Devender Yadav on Friday raised strong objections to reports suggesting the Delhi government plans to replace the current free travel system for women in DTC buses with a mandatory ‘Pink Saheli Card’.
Yadav alleged that the move, reportedly set to begin from January 1, 2026, would effectively strip a large section of Delhi’s women of their right to free travel. He argued that the requirement for online registration and KYC would create significant barriers for uneducated, less educated, and migrant women residing in slums, resettlement colonies, unauthorised colonies, and rural parts of the capital.
“The process will be impossible for many,” Yadav stated, questioning how half of Delhi’s female population could procure the card by the reported deadline. He drew a parallel to the BJP’s earlier promise of a Rs. 2,500 monthly honorarium for women, which he claims remains unfulfilled despite budgetary allocation.
The Congress leader also questioned the rationale behind involving private entities like Airtel and Muffin Bank in the card’s operation, calling it a “blatant misuse of government funds” and an attempt to benefit private industrialists.
