Dhaka, Dec 25 (UNI): BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman on Thursday, expressed his gratitude to Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus for security arrangements put in place for him and his family by the interim government.
Rahman made the remarks during a phone call to Yunus shortly after arriving in Dhaka, landing at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at around 11:41AM.
A verified Facebook post from Rahman later confirmed the call and included an audio recording of the conversation.
In the audio shared publicly, Rahman is heard enquiring about the chief advisor’s health before thanking him for what he described as special security measures. He said the arrangements had been made on his behalf and for his family members, and expressed appreciation for the steps taken by the authorities.
The post also included a photograph taken at the airport’s VIP lounge, showing Rahman speaking on the phone while seated next to his mother-in-law, Syeda Iqbal Mand Banu, and his wife, Zubaida Rahman.
Following his return, BNP leaders and activists gathered outside Evercare Hospital in Dhaka in the afternoon, ahead of Rahman’s scheduled visit to his mother, former prime minister Khaleda Zia, who is currently housed there in the intensive care unit.
Rahman’s return to Bangladesh has drawn significant attention amid heightened political tensions, as the ailing former premier is in critical condition, further intensifying public and party interests, prompting increased security measures around her treatment and family visits.
Security was visibly tightened in the area around the hospital, with law enforcement agencies restricting access to the road in front of the facility. Only patients and authorised vehicles were permitted entry, as police sought to manage the crowd and prevent congestion.
Personnel from the police, Border Guard Bangladesh, Ansar and other security agencies were deployed around the hospital premises to maintain law and order. Party supporters were seen gathering nearby but remained outside the restricted zone under police supervision.
