
Egypt , 2 Sep : At least 16 people were killed and 28 others injured after a bus overturned on the Dahab-Nuweiba road in Egypt’s South Sinai on Wednesday.
According to local media reports citing the Health and Population Ministry, the bus was travelling towards Nuweiba when the accident occurred before the Al-Saada area.
Subsequently, 20 ambulances reached the site to evacuate victims and provide first aid.
Health Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar directed officials to ensure the injured received the highest level of medical care.
Meanwhile, Solidarity Minister Maya Morsy ordered emergency relief and support for those affected.
The latest crash follows another deadly accident in August. Eighteen people died and 30 suffered injuries after two worker-carrying vehicles collided in Ismailia Governorate.
Authorities launched a probe after security forces and ambulance teams reached the scene.
More broadly, Egypt recorded a 10.8 per cent rise in road deaths in 2025, reaching 5,829 fatalities, according to CAPMAS figures reported by Ahram Online. Road injuries also increased 10.7 per cent to 84,553.
Children under 15 recorded the highest fatalities among age groups.
The figures showed 1,580 deaths and 29,101 injuries among children in 2025.
