
New Delhi , 15 July : Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday hailed the implementation of the India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) and the Agreement on Social Security, calling them a major milestone in the growing partnership between the two countries.
He said the landmark agreements would accelerate trade, encourage investment and create wider economic opportunities for people and businesses in both nations.
Responding to a post by Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal on X, the Prime Minister said the agreements transform the shared vision of India and the United Kingdom into meaningful outcomes.
He further noted that the agreements would enhance collaboration in technology, innovation and professional services while encouraging greater movement of skilled Indian professionals.
Social Security Pact to Benefit Workforce
PM Modi said the Agreement on Social Security would provide significant relief to Indian professionals undertaking temporary assignments in the United Kingdom.
He added that the arrangement would prevent double social security contributions for eligible workers for up to five years, making Indian businesses more competitive internationally.
He said both countries would continue to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, technology and innovation to achieve shared economic prosperity.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal called the agreements a landmark achievement in India-UK relations and credited Prime Minister Modi’s leadership for bringing them into force.
He said the trade pact would grant zero-duty access to nearly 99 per cent of India’s exports, covering almost the entire value of bilateral trade.
Goyal added that industries such as textiles, leather, engineering goods, gems and jewellery, marine products, chemicals and processed food are expected to benefit substantially.
He also said the agreements would create fresh opportunities for India’s IT, financial, education and business services sectors while supporting stronger long-term trade and investment ties between India and the United Kingdom.
