Arunachal Flash Flood: Search On For 4 Missing As Rescue Ops Enter Second Day

Arunachal Pradesh , 25 June : Search and rescue operations continued for the second consecutive day in Arunachal Pradesh’s Keyi Panyor district after devastating flash floods struck the Poosa area, leaving four people still missing.

Officials said the flash floods hit the NEEPCO project colony near Poosa under the Yazali circle following heavy rainfall.

Initially, five people were reported missing, but rescuers later recovered the body of Nirmala Gupta during the operation.

Four individuals, identified as Elesh Marak, Balari Marak, Tao Anjina, and Sourav Kumar, remain untraced.

At least 20 people sustained injuries, including three in critical condition, and authorities shifted them to a government hospital for treatment.

Officials said an under-construction retaining wall collapsed due to incessant rainfall, triggering severe waterlogging and damage to around 20 houses in the affected area.

The state-owned North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) has begun releasing water from the Ranganadi Dam as a precautionary measure due to rising inflows and has temporarily suspended power generation at the hydropower project.

Authorities report damage to several goods-laden vehicles as heavy rainfall batters Arunachal Pradesh, triggering landslides and flash floods across multiple districts.

Disaster management teams advise residents in vulnerable and riverbank areas to stay alert and avoid unnecessary movement.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju expresses grief over the loss of lives and assures that rescue, relief, and restoration efforts are underway.

Meanwhile, the Assam government issues a high alert after heavy rainfall in Arunachal Pradesh, warning of a significant downstream impact.

Authorities expect water levels in the Brahmaputra and its tributaries to rise, and they say districts including Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, and Sonitpur will face the impact first, followed by other downstream regions over the next one to two days.
