New Delhi , 24 June : Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and reaffirmed China’s willingness to strengthen cooperation with India.
He emphasised implementing the key understandings reached by the leaders of both nations and sustaining the positive trajectory of bilateral relations.
Wang stated that China and India should continue building mutual trust, address concerns constructively and expand mutually beneficial collaboration.
He said stronger engagement would support the modernisation goals of both countries while serving the interests of their people.
China’s Ambassador to India, Xu Feihong, shared details of the meeting in a post on X. He noted that Wang described India and China as the two largest developing nations and significant members of the Global South.
Wang stressed that both countries should promote unity and self-reliance among developing nations.
He also reiterated China’s support for India as the current rotating chair of BRICS and expressed readiness to advance cooperation within the grouping.
Focus On Bilateral Ties
The meeting followed Wang’s interaction with National Security Advisor Ajit Doval on the sidelines of the BRICS National Security Advisors Meeting.
Both sides reviewed recent developments in bilateral relations and acknowledged progress towards gradual normalisation.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Ambassador Xu Feihong and other senior officials attended the discussions.
According to the Chinese side, Wang highlighted the importance of viewing India-China relations through both long-term and global perspectives.
He urged both nations to accelerate development through cooperation and contribute to the advancement of the Global South.
During his discussions with NSA Doval, Wang emphasised respect for each other’s core interests and careful management of sensitive matters, including the border issue.
He stated that both countries should prevent such matters from affecting the broader relationship.
Wang also called for greater public understanding and stronger social foundations to support the continued improvement of India-China ties.
